Built in 1961, the Maurice-Richard arena is located in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough and houses the national short track speed skating centre, playing an important role in elite athlete development. Unigesco delivered a building expansion and upgraded the refrigeration system and mechanical systems for the Maurice-Richard arena. The work included constructing an entirely new building to house the new refrigeration system. This mechanical room is connected to the arena by a tunnel and required excavation work over a distance of 120 feet and a 25-foot depth. Throughout the process, Unigesco met sustainable construction standards, as required for the project’s LEED Silver certification.
